Hong Kong 7's 2025 travel review

Your trip: HK 7s 2025

What was your favourite part of Hong Kong?

Too hard to pinpoint one thing, but it’s the vibe – as a whole HK is the real definition of a place where East meets West and Old meets New in perfect synchronicity – the sights, the various transport systems, the food and the old vs new architecture interwoven together is so unique.

What was your favourite part of the trip?

The rugby 7s – it is high on the bucket list of rugby events and the new stadium “Kai Tak” did not disappoint, it was an incredible experience!

How was the match?

The stadium being a new multi-billion-dollar stadium makes for an incredible atmosphere and a really enjoyable fan experience! The big window behind the famous ‘south stand’ is cleverly designed to be able to see the landscape of Hong Kong through it and the south stand is just as fun and lively as it has always historically been. The retractable roof makes it perfect for all year round and all weather which is perfect when HK is quite unpredictable in spring; there are also 2 huge double-sided screens, so everyone has a good view of the action close up! The rugby was world class and the final matches were an incredible experience, as were Keiser Chiefs just before – the acoustics, music and lighting makes it the perfect place for this 7s experience.

What would you recommend doing in Hong Kong?

I highly recommend working your way through the food that HK has to offer – there are a lot of food “tours” which is a great way to try lots of local delicacies! From Dim-Sum spots to trying the famous roasted Goose no street doesn’t have good options for only a few dollars. For a more modern evening setting, there are so many rooftop / sky bars which give incredible views across the city with delicious cocktails and is well worth timing with the 8pm light show if you visit one on the Kowloon side looking towards the island.

Take a ride of the Star Ferry over to HK island then take a ride on the famous ‘Ding Ding’ tram which crosses the main part of the island. A highlight is to then take a trip up the Victoria Peak Tram up to the very top of HK and look down on the high rises from the hills; tip - it is special, and quiet, first thing in the morning!
