Spanish Grand Prix 2025

What was your favourite part of the city:

Barcelona is an incredible city rich in history and stunning architecture. It has wide tree-lined open spaces and leafy parks, cosy narrow side streets with trendy bars, its beautiful port and sandy beaches. The city feels alive, full of all ages, it has a wonderful, vibrant yet laid back vibe due to its sociable character, stunning Mediterranean climate, and delicious food.  You are spoilt for choice, it has plenty of great restaurants and bars, ice-cream parlours, tapas and paella, not forgetting its clubs, theatres, museums and boutique shops.

I particularly enjoyed The Gothic Quarter, off the iconic bustling thoroughfare of La Rambla.  It has an old romantic charm to it, twinkly lights, fountains and palm trees, and beautiful architecture from a bygone era. A variety of restaurants, cafes and bars, it's lively day and night, flower stalls, street performers. It’s in the centre of the city, and many of the city’s attractions are a walk away. It’s a cultural hub. Easy to get to on the clean, air-conditioned metro trains.

What was your favourite part of the trip:

Absolutely being in the grandstand on Race day of Formula 1 at the Circuit de Catalunya. The energy and excitement were off the scale -  the views, sounds, smells, heat - incredible memories - truly a bucket list moment, full of passion and adrenaline fuelled. The Spanish Grand Prix was an unforgettable experience.

The track is beautifully designed with fantastic views from multiple areas. There are a variety of places to buy food and drink at the track. Getting to the track is easy from Barcelona by a coach transfer.

How was the race?

In glorious Spanish sunshine, starting from pole, Oscar Piastri led the field into the first corner. Behind him, Lando Norris from P2 dropped to third behind Max Verstappen.

With six laps to go, the race restarted, Piastri and Norris sprinted away.  But behind the drama started.  Verstappen was passed by Leclerc, the pair having a small clash as they went down the first corner.

Verstappen on the hard in fourth was struggling, George Russell attacking Verstappen had a snap of an oversteer on the inside as he attempted to pass, resulting in him making little contact with Verstappen. Verstappen was forced to go wide, retained fourth from Russell, but the team told him to give the position to Russell  As Verstappen gave the position to Russell, the Dutchman ran a little wide, giving Russell a tap.

As the McLaren pair of Piastri and Norris went over the line in first and second, followed by Leclerc in third.  Verstappen was given a 10-second penalty for his second clash with Russell, dropping him to tenth.

Heading to Canada next, Piastri increased his championship lead to 10 points from Lando Norris.

What would you recommend doing in Barcelona?

You must go to La Rambla as it is the heart of Barcelona and will immediately immerse you in the Spanish vibe! The famous Sagrada Familia is worth visiting - even if just from the outside, as it is quite magnificent and iconic to Barcelona with its Gothic and Art Nouveau style, designed by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you’re feeling fit, you can climb its steeples!
