The Spanish Grand Prix 2024 - Travel review

Your trip: Spanish Grand Prix 2024

What did you enjoy most about Barcelona?

Barcelona has in my opinion the best of any European city combined with plenty of great restaurants, tapas, museums, parks and public areas. It's not just the Mediterranean climate, sandy beaches, and delicious food that is so wonderful about the city, but also Barcelona's rich history and cultural heritage – I enjoyed exploring wondrous architectural works of Antoni Gaudí (eg. Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló). Unfortunately, the Camp Nou was being renovated, otherwise that is also a must-visit when visiting Barcelona.

A great thing about Barcelona is also that the metro trains are clean and air-conditioned. Plus, you have internet connection and the subway system is easy to understand, meaning you can get around the vast city with ease!

    How was the Race?

The Spanish Grand Prix was an unforgettable experience. The Circuit de Catalunya was packed with a passionate crowd with most fans cheering on Carlos Sainz and especially Fernando Alonso. There was a great atmosphere in the grandstands, fan zone and general admission areas. Plus, the track is beautifully designed for spectators, allowing wide, sweeping views of multiple corners. The Gullivers team and I enjoyed walking around the circuit, taking in different view points from the corners.

Away from the racing, you had plenty of opportunities to grab a bite to eat or drink at the many food/drink stands – I enjoyed a tasty burger in the shade on both days. Plus, the gorgeous weather on Saturday and Sunday added to the exceptional race weekend.

The race itself was adrenaline-fueled. Max Verstappen was pushed to the line by McLaren pole-sitter Lando Norris. The 24-year-old drove his heart out and vied with Russell in some brilliant wheel-to-wheel racing, changing places three times across the lap before Lando Norris driver finally emerged on top at turn six. Moreover, Mercedes’ improved form continued with Hamilton and Russell claiming third and fourth (Russell snatched an early lead on the first corner, diving past Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who were battling it out in turn one).

What was your favourite part of the trip?

What I enjoyed most about the trip was Barcelona’s pleasant vibe. The city is packed with locals and visitors, but the vibe is always relaxed; nothing is hurried. People spend hours on the terraces of bars and restaurants, savouring meals and catching-up on life.

A highlight was naturally the Formula 1 at Circuit de Catalunya. It’s a wonderful track to visit and easy to get to via coach transfer from Barcelona city centre.

What would you recommend when visiting Barcelona / the Spanish Grand Prix?

The absolute number 1 attraction in Barcelona Spain is the Sagrada Familia, and it’s definitely worth visiting. The church will probably be completed in 2026! I’d also recommend spending some time in the Ramblas area if you want to enjoy some delicious Paella, Tortilla and other food.

At the circuit, make sure to drink plenty of water and take a hat and sun cream with you!
