Tokyo City Tour – Full Day - 6th Oct

£115 per person

Leaving your hotel after breakfast, this full day guided city bus tour is a great introduction to the sights and sounds of Tokyo. Starting with a visit to Meiji-jingu Shrine, dedicated to the late 19th century Emperor Meiji, it is Tokyo’s most famous shrine and is a wonderfully serene oasis lying in the middle of this urban city. The tour continues with a visit to the Tokyo Sky Tree, the second tallest structure in the world. The observation desks are located at 350 and 450 meters respectively, offering spectacular views of the Tokyo metropolitan area (the most populous metropolitan area in the world). Following the visit to the Tokyo Sky Tree lunch is included in the tour at a local restaurant.

After lunch, the tour continues to Asakusa Kannon Temple, one of Tokyo’s most colourful, oldest and popular temples. The temple is approached via Nakamise-dori, a 200-metre street crammed with tiny shops full of typical Japanese souvenirs, and other items perfect for gifts or as a memento of your trip to Japan. The final stop of the tour takes in Akihabara, famous for its many electronics shops. In more recent years, Akihabara has gained recognition as the centre of Japan's otaku culture (diehard fan), and many shops and establishments devoted to anime and manga are now dispersed among the electronic stores in the district. Finally, the coach will return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Tour includes: Local Japanese Tour Guide, Tokyo Sky Tree (admission to observatory at 350m), Meiji-jingu Shrine, Asakusa Kannon Temple and Nakamise Street, Akihabara, Lunch

On the other side, you will arrive at the Hakone Ropeway (cable car) and along the journey you can enjoy spectacular views of the crystal-clear blue waters of Lake Ashi, the rising volcanic fumes of Owakudani (a 3,000-year-old volcanic valley) and the grandeur of Mount Fuji on a clear day.  At the top of the ropeway, enjoy the scenic views whilst trying the local speciality of Kuro-tamago (black eggs). Day One

Having feasted your eyes on Mount Fuji the coach will collect you from the cable car station and take you to your ryokan. A ryokan is a traditional Japanese Inn or hotel and your bedroom for the night will be a traditional Japanese style room, containing a comfortable futon for you to sleep on. You may wish to partake in an onsen, which is an integral tradition of Japanese culture. An onsen is a naturally hot bath usually heated by a local hot spring and it is worth noting that an onsen is enjoyed naked, so no swimsuits are allowed. Although this seems intimidating, it soon becomes normal as you relax in the hot thermal bath. Afterwards, wear your yukata to dinner and settle down to feast on a kaiseki dinner, which is as much artwork as food, with each dish a balance of tastes, textures and colours beautifully presented.

Day Two

The morning and early afternoon are for relaxing and enjoying your environment out of the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Japan. The coach will depart from the ryokan for Hakone, where you can explore this beautiful holiday resort, and perhaps purchase some local food or souvenirs from one of the many shops on the little high street. There is also an open-air art museum which boasts artwork by Picasso, Henry Moore and many other highly acclaimed artists. Your coach will depart back to Tokyo at 2pm for the approx. two-hour return journey.

Visit includes: Local Japanese tour guide, lunch on day one, cruise on Lake Ashi, Hakone Ropeway, one night at a ryokan with dinner and breakfast

Depart 10:00 Day one – Return 16:00 Day two
