ICC Men's T20 World Cup West Indies & USA 2024 Travel review image

Who are you/ your role: My name is Luke, and I'm part of Gulliver's Operations Team

Your trip: I travelled with the tour group to Barbados and Antigua to follow England's group games in the T20 World Cup 2024.

What did you enjoy most about the Caribbean? The people. Everyone was just so friendly and treated you as if they were your best friend. I think this is what makes the West Indies such a desired destination. Plus the obvious: the blue sea and white sandy beaches.

What was your favourite part of the trip? The England v Australia match. Although England lost, being able to experience one of the biggest rivalries in sport being played in a World Cup, was a bucket list moment for me. The atmosphere in the Kensington Oval was just ‘out of this world'! And the match had plenty of runs which is an added bonus.

How were the cricket matches? The atmosphere for both matches I went to was truly spectacular. Supporters from both teams, but especially the locals made it feel special and electric in the ground.

A highlight for me was witnessing Jofra Archer get a wicket in Barbados against Australia. It was a special moment enjoyed by the English and local fans.

One thing I would recommend for anyone visiting the Kensington Oval is enjoying the food. I had chicken with rice and peas and it was delicious (I could have it every day of the week!). A special mention also goes to the Mac & Cheese pie - a must when trying the food.

ICC Men's T20 World Cup West Indies & USA 2024 travel review

What would you recommend doing in the West Indies? If you get the chance, I definitely recommend doing the Mount Gay Distillery tour in Barbados with the cocktail masterclass option. This is located at the top of the island at the original Mount Gay distillery and is a fascinating experience that provides an in-depth dive into the history of Mount Gay and what goes into making their world-famous rum. You also get the added bonus of tasting a number of the rums that are made at the distillery. The cocktail masterclass at the end of the tour is a must-do. You get the chance to learn how to make multiple cocktails using their unique rum and don’t worry, you will of course get to drink the cocktails you have masterfully made!
