Singapore grand prix 2024 travel review

Who are you/ your role: George – Operations Executive

Your trip: Singapore Grand Prix, 18th – 23rd September 2024

What was your favourite part of the city?

There’s a lot to love about Singapore, so picking my favourite part of the city is difficult. For me, my favourite part of the city is how beautiful and picturesque it is. I was fascinated by all the greenery that is immersed amongst the city- it’s as if the city has been placed in the middle of a jungle. They also enforce fines on those who litter, so Singapore is very clean with no rubbish anywhere. There are so many iconic buildings and attractions as well which mean there is a photo opportunity around every corner.

What was your favourite part of the trip?

My favourite part of the trip was going to the Gardens By The Bay at night. The Gardens By The Bay is already a main attraction in Singapore; however, in the evenings there are frequent light shows that you can go and watch for free. The light shows take place to music and the view of the Marina Bay Sands hotel in the background makes it a great visual experience.

How was the race?

The Singapore Grand Prix was epic! Given that the Singapore GP is the original night race, they certainly know how to put on a show. The atmosphere was emphatic, as there is music and entertainment happening all the way around the circuit.

In regard to the race, it was McLaren that took two out of the three podium positions. Lando Norris ran away from Max Verstappen, whilst Oscar Piastri came from fifth on the grid to finish third. In what was now his final race, Daniel Riccardo took the fastest lap in his final lap- a rather fitting send off for the Australian.

What would you recommend doing in the city?

It’s a common answer but I would certainly recommend heading to the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel to try a Singapore Sling. Raffles Hotel is where the Singapore Sling cocktail was born and it’s widely regarded as the national drink. On each table, you are provided with a complimentary bag of monkey nuts where customers throw the nut shells on the floor as per tradition. It sounds bizarre but that’s why I recommend seeing it for yourself.
